    • Check your passport and make sure that your passport is valid up to 6 months after your return date.

    • Make 3 copies of your passport. Leave one in your luggage, keep one on you, and leave one at home with a reliable person.

    • Expedite the re-entry process when returning to the US by enrolling in Global Entry with the US Customs and Border Patrol here.

    • Be sure to notify your bank that you will be traveling so they do not block your debit card. Do the same for the credit card(s) you are bringing.

    • Consider obtaining a credit card that does not charge international fees such as the Chase Sapphire Preferred card, the Bank of America Travel Rewards card, or the Capital One Venture card.

    • Always pay in local currency when given the option. You will receive a better exchange rate than if you chose to pay in USD while abroad and incur fewer fees.

    • After landing, go to the ATM in the airport and get some local currency.

    • Notify your cell phone provider before you leave the country and ask for the best plan that allows international roaming without lots of extra fees.

    • Bring a portable battery charger for your cell phone as well as a cord and plug for charging.

    • All hotels will have hair dryers, but if you want to bring a flat iron or curling iron, please be sure to bring either one with a dual converter or a cordless version.
